One of my favorite things to do is perform in theatrical plays, so that’s why I’ve signed up for my high school’s theater program. We meet every other week to rehearse whatever play we’ve chosen for each given season, and to relax and hang out. Towards the time that our show opens, we’re allowed to rehearse in our high school’s large auditorium, which is also where we perform. This auditorium is used for spirit rallies, movie showings, and any other event that requires a lot of seating. Last week my theater group was able to rehearse in the large auditorium, but when we walked in something was noticeably different about the room I know so much. It was a lot warmer inside than normal, as it is usually quite cold inside to keep all the patrons comfortable. My theater teacher told me that the school started turning off the air conditioner in the auditorium during rehearsal times to save money. I was pretty upset about this, because if the school cared enough to keep patrons cool and happy, why wouldn’t they extend that same attitude toward their own students? Needless to say we had a very sweaty rehearsal that day. My makeup, which is applied heavily for the stage, was dripping off my face near the end of the play. I could tell my costume had sweat stains and I was miserable. Rehearsing in an un-airconditioned auditorium should be considered a criminal act, and I’m going to call my school and ask them to turn the air conditioner on whenever we’re in there to practice.
One thing my boyfriend and I always like to do is go see concerts together. It doesn’t even matter if we really like the band or not, the two of us love the music scene in our city and going to a concert is the perfect way to spend a Friday night. We have a few concert venues we like to frequent, but last week we were forced to go to one of the worst concert venues in town because a band we absolutely could not miss was playing there. We didn’t expect the night to be fantastic, but we at least knew that we would enjoy the music. When we arrived at the concert venue and gave the attendant our tickets, I could feel a wave of heat and humidity flow from the venue door. It felt sticky in there and reeked of sweat and beer. When we got inside the doors, everything intensified. I asked a bartender if there was a problem, and she told me that the air conditioning unit was turned off for maintenance, and that it would be up and running tomorrow. I couldn’t believe that the venue would choose tonight of all times to service their air conditioning unit, knowing the venue would be packed full of dancing, sweaty people. I felt as if I could barely breathe, but the band was so good live that I eventually forgot about the terrible heat. I may have left the concert in a puddle of sweat, but I had a great time. Now I know why we don’t like that concert venue, because it doesn’t have great air conditioning.
I am meticulous about the upkeep of my home, and it requires a lot of time and effort. I am thankful that my husband is willing to work with me to maintain are home. My husband spends hours making sure that the lawn is perfectly mowed, the hedges properly trimmed, and the driveway swept. He also handles the swimming pool, adding the necessary chemicals to ensure crystal clear water. I take care of the vegetable and flower gardens, pulling weeds, spraying for bugs, and planting new varieties. We recently installed new rain gutters on the house, painted all of the trim around the windows and built a back deck. I have found that it is easy to neglect important aspects of household upkeep that are not as visible. While I never forget to wash the windows or vacuum the rugs, I don’t always remember to change the filter or schedule service for my HVAC system. Since the condition of the heating and cooling equipment directly impacts comfort, safety, and budget, I’ve made seasonal maintenance a priority. I enrolled in a service agreement with a local HVAC contractor which includes two appointments per year. The HVAC contractor calls me to schedule a convenient time, reminds me of filter replacements, and handles the cleaning and tuning of the equipment. Because of this, I don’t need to worry about a sudden malfunction with the furnace or air conditioner, degraded air quality, or excessive running costs. I wish that I could enroll in a maintenance plan for the rest of the house and save myself a ton of work and effort.
I have always wanted to work at a non for profit agency. It has been my goal to help others through my career. When I got hired by an agency that works with our city’s homeless, I was so happy. I left a job with a large corporation where I was just another fish in the pond. At my new position, I am a part of something with meaning and purpose. I plan to make a positive difference. The agency’s office is located downtown in the city, in a small dated building. On the first day, the new boss told me that the HVAC unit was broken down and had been operational for the last 3 days . The office was exceptionally cold. I wish that the boss would have been considerate enough to alert me believe that the Heating system wasn’t operating. It would have been helpful to have dressed appropriately. I shivered through the first day. The second day, I brought a heavy sweater and coat. I questioned my boss as to when the HVAC system would be serviced by an HVAC contractor. She had no clue, and said that the HVAC business had not yet agreed to an appointment time. She did not seem to see this as a priority. I took it upon myself to call the HVAC business. I showed my new boss that I was motivated and capable. I took the lead because I did not want clients coming into our office with no heat, when it was around thirty degrees outside. I spoke to the HVAC contractor and outlined our situation. He was extremely helpful, and sent an HVAC technician immediately.
For many years, I have wanted to work at a non for profit agency. I have always wanted to help others through my work, so when I was hired at an agency that worked with my city’s refugee population, I was so thrilled. I was coming from a huge corporation where I was just a number. At my new job, I felt like I was a part of something bigger. I hoped I would be making a difference. The agency’s office is on the west side of the city, in a small dated building. On my first day, my new boss told me that the HVAC system was broken and had been for the last three days. The office was freezing cold. I wish that my boss would have let me know that the HVAC system was not working, then I could have dressed appropriately. I suffered through the first day and made a mental note to bring a heavy sweater the following day. I asked my boss when the HVAC system would be fixed. She had no clue because the HVAC company had not gotten back to her. She did not seem very motivated to get it fixed, so I called up the HVAC company. I wanted to show my new boss that I was extremely motivated and could handle multiple projects at once. I did not think it was a good thing to have the refugees coming into our office and having the temperature be undesirable. I was able to speak to the HVAC company owner and explained our situation. He said he would send over an HVAC technician immediately.
Since I was a kid, I have wanted to work at a non profit agency. I have always felt the need to help others through my work, so when I was hired at an agency that worked with my city’s needy people, I was so thrilled. I was leaving a job from a giant company where I was just another worker drone. At my new job, I was working toward something bigger and more important. I planned to make a difference. The agency’s office is on the east side of the city, in a small, outdated building. On my first morning, my boss informed me that the HVAC system was had not functioning properly. I had malfunctioned the week before. The office was extremely cold. I would have liked it if my boss would have warned me that the Heating system was not operating. I would have dressed more appropriately. I lived through the whole first day and reminded myself to bring a sweater or even a jacket the following afternoon. I asked my boss when to expect the Heating system to be repaired. She had no answer for me because the HVAC contractor had not yet given her a scheduled time. She did not seem over concerned about getting it fixed, so I called up the HVAC company myself. I wanted to prove to my new boss that I was proactive. I handled the HVAC issue that same day. I knew it would be unfortunate to have clients coming into the office when the temperature was not at ideal levels. I was able to confer with the HVAC contractor about the situation. He promised to send over an HVAC technician within the hour.
I live in an area with very extreme weather. The summer season is fairly short, but it is often super hot and humid. The winter weather is absolutely brutal, with long months of subzero temperatures and tons of snow. Even the spring and fall can be chilly, and require running the furnace. I have a forced air HVAC system installed in my house, and my energy bills have always been a major part of my budget. When the central air conditioner needed to be replaced, I consulted with my local HVAC provider. I wanted his recommendation as to what model to purchase to keep my summer electric bill as low as possible. I was surprised when the HVAC contractor suggested that I invest in an electric heat pump. Combining an electric heat pump with a gas furnace is a called a dual fuel system. Adding the electric heat pump not only solved my need for air conditioning but made a significant difference in the cost of heating my home. An electric heat pump is much more energy efficient and cheaper to operate than my natural gas furnace. Unfortunately, it is only effective when the outside air temperature remains above freezing. During the spring, fall, and early parts of winter, I rely solely on the electric heat pump to maintain comfort in my home. When the outside temperature drops, the system automatically switches over to the furnace. Because the furnace carries a much lighter workload, it should last far longer and succumb to fewer repairs. Plus, the heat pump doesn’t dry out the indoor air, and is effective at handling humidity in the summer.
For many years, I have longed to work at a non profit agency. I have always hoped to help others through my work, so when I was hired at an agency that assisted with our city’s homeless population, I was delighted. I was leaving behind a big corporation where I was just a number. At my new job, I felt good about being a part of something bigger. I was sure I would be making a difference. The agency’s office is located on the west side of the city, in an old building. On my first day, the new boss told me that the HVAC system had malfunctioned and had been out of order for the last week . The office was unpleasantly cold. I wish that my boss would have let me contact the HVAC contractor for repair to get the system working. Instead, I had to dress appropriately for the chilly conditions. I made it through the first day and made a mental note to bring a warm jacket the following day. I asked my boss if the HVAC system would be fixed in the near future. She was not certain because the HVAC contractor had not gotten back to her. She did not seem determined to get it fixed, so I finally called up the HVAC company myself. I wanted to prove to the new boss that I was motivated and could handle several projects at once. I did not believe it was appropriate to have the clients coming into our office and having the temperature be far too cold. I was able to speak to an HVAC technician and explained the issue. He promised to send over an HVAC specialist right away.
About two years ago, my youngest son moved down south to take a job. My husband and I live in the northeastern part of the country, and we are rather envious of the beautiful weather down south. When we are running our gas furnace at maximum capacity, dealing with feet of snow and subzero temperatures, my son is lying in the sunshine, by his swimming pool. When we are bundled up in wool coats, shoveling snow out of the driveway, and scraping ice off our windshields, he is running his air conditioner at high speed. Last winter, we decided to head south and visit my son for a couple of weeks. We were very excited to escape the brutal cold and enjoy some sunshine, ocean breezes, and palm trees. I left behind my wool coat, hat and gloves, and only packed shorts, T-shirts, and sandals. Unfortunately, our vacation down south coincided with an unexpected cold snap. The area where my son lives experienced the coldest temperatures on record, with frost on the ground, and a few flakes of snow flying around. My son’s air conditioner and swimming pool did not hold any appeal. My husband and I were freezing cold, and my son’s apartment doesn’t have any type of heating system installed. I found this rather amazing, and I missed having my wool coat and my furnace. My husband and I ended up going out and buying a bunch of warm clothing. We drank lots of hot coffee, and shivered under blankets. It finally warmed up for the last two days of our trip. The sun came out, and the air conditioner was suddenly necessary.
For many years, I had hoped to work at a non profit agency. It has been my goal to help others through my work. When I got the job at an agency that works with my city’s refugee population, I was so excited. I left a job at a huge corporation where I was just another employee doing a thankless task. My new job allows me to be a part of something bigger. It is my goal to make a difference. The agency’s office is situated on the city’s main thoroughfare, in a small brick building. On my first day, my boss explained that the HVAC system was not working and had been a problem for the last several weeks. The office was ice cold. I wish that my boss would have informed me of the situation with the HVAC system ahead of time. I then would have dressed accordingly. Instead, I froze during my first day and made sure to bring a heavy sweater with me the following day. I asked my boss when the HVAC system might be fixed. He had no idea. He said the HVAC contractor had promised to get back to him shortly. He did not seem in a hurry to get the furnace repaired, so I contacted the HVAC company. I hoped to demonstrate to my new boss that I was extremely dedicated and could handle problems. I also felt it necessary to have sufficient heat when clients came into our office. I spoke with an HVAC contractor and explained the situation. An HVAC technician arrived that day, and the repair was simple and inexpensive.
