My cold has gotten out of hand. First it started out with just being a sore throat. I needed to sleep with a cough drop in my mouth. Then I started taking medicine because I got a headache with the throat. Then I started having issues with my nose. My nose started running and now it is full on plugged. Being sick is awful because everything in life is just a little worse. I can’t sleep at night because of my cold. My throat makes it hard to swallow. My head makes it so I can’t relax. My stuffy nose makes it so I can’t breathe when I am laying down. I have to keep my mouth open to sleep. I am thankful that my home’s HVAC unit extends into my bedroom. The only nice thing about my cold is I have a reason to raise the temperature in my room. I decided that I do not care about a higher monthly heat bill. I want my bedroom to be the right temperature. I have my heating system on the entire night. I keep it a higher temperature to keep my warm at night. My furnace heats up my entire home very well. I like that I never have to be cold in my home. My cold is bad enough, being the wrong temperature would be unbearable. Sometimes I do get a little overheated. It is easy to change the temperature because of my smart thermostat. I adjust the temperature a few degrees by using my phone. The HVAC unit adjusts and I am comfy once again.
I have a really ugly scar on my elbow from my childhood. In my home we had an old boiler system. The boiler was ancient, dirty and it rarely worked. It was all we had though and we could afford to replace it. The boiler was in the basement and would make a loud noise to turn on. How the heat came up into our living room was through a grate in the floor. The metal grate allowed the heat to come up into the living room. It was not energy efficient at all. When the boiler was off the cold air would leak up into our home. When the boiler was on the heat would make the grate too hot to touch. My father put my sleeping bag over the grate one evening to block out the cold air. The boiler turned on and the heat burned my sleeping bag to the grate. I was not happy to say the least. I got my scar from falling on the grate, rather than burning myself. Our couch was right next to it. I was sitting on the back of the couch and was moving my feet. The motion rocked my backwards and I feel off. I scraped my elbow on the grate and it started bleeding. This happened over ten years ago and I still have the ugly worm shaped scar today. Everytime I see the scar I think about the old boiler system. I remember how poor we are and how fortunate we were to at least have heat at the time.
As a parent, you just want to provide your children with the best possible living situation. First, this starts by having mom and dad on the same page as often as possible. It can be a very confusing household for a kid if the parents do not agree on most things. It sends a message of inconsistency and can really stunt the growth of a child’s development. Along with a cohesive home, the house itself must be prepared to raise children in as well. If your home is falling apart or there are several things wrong with it at any given time, the child might feel unsafe while home, which is never a good thing. To keep my house in decent shape, I enlisted the help of a great plumber. With my wife and two daughters, there is always hair in the shower drains. It’s not their fault, it just happens. That hair can really clog up the bathroom plumbing at times, though, which is frustrating as a homeowner. My plumber comes over on scheduled visits two times per year to unclog all the bathroom drains and make sure everything is ready to go. I really enjoy having home in my home because it makes me feel like my house is in good hands. I will continue to use him for many years to come, or at least until my daughters are fully grown and left the house. I will miss them but not their long, curly hair! Does that sound bad? Oh well!
