Things to do in Denver

One of the first things you do in the morning or when you are traveling somewhere is check the weather.  The weather can influence many things in our lives.  Whether we picnic outside or where we relax that day, is easily impacted by the weather.  In Denver, Colorado, the weather, at times, is very mild.  They do experience four seasons throughout the year.  The winters in Denver are calm and mild.  The temperature is around 45 degrees during the cold season.  Throughout the entire year, Denver only sees about 8 to 15 inches of precipitation.  With the warmer winter temperatures and low precipitation, snow does not stick around long.  A great benefit to this is that the golf courses and other outdoor activities stay open all year round for your enjoyment.  In the summer, the weather is just about perfect.  There is low humidity and high temperatures to provide you with the best experience.  Temperature highs in the summer stay around 86 degrees.  Denver sees more than 300 days of sunshine in a year.  That is more than some of the most popular cities in Florida and California.  These mild temperatures throughout the year are said to be caused by the sea level at which Denver is located.  Denver is exactly a mile above sea level, and that is why it’s called “The Mile High City.”  If you are thinking about visiting Denver, think about what activities you would like to do while you’re here.  If you want to ski and snowboard, then March is a great time to visit.  If you want to see the beautiful, golden scenery, then the fall is a great time to stop.

Heat pump

There are many different options for heating and cooling your home. Over the years, HVAC engineers have developed new and improved systems to heat and cool your home. One of the best inventions is the heat pump. The heat pump comes in a few different varieties. There is a traditional heat pump, ductless heat pump, geothermal heat pump and even a dual fuel heat pump. All of these heat pumps work very well in specific climates. The dual fuel heat pump is the system that works the best in my home. I live in a climate that experiences extreme weather in the summer and in the winter. The dual fuel heat pump is great at cooling my home in the summer. I don’t know exactly how my heat pump works, but I do know that it is very energy efficient. I was told by my HVAC technician that heat pumps do not create heat. They transport heat from one location to another location. The dual fuel heat pump comes in handy when the winter arrives. A traditional heat pump is not able to efficiently operate when temperatures are below freezing for a long period of time. This is why a dual fuel heat pump works well in the winter. When the temperature goes too low, the heat pump begins operating on fossil fuels. Natural gas, propane and heating oil are common types of fuel for a dual fuel heat pump. The system automatically switches itself between operating like a heat pump and a furnace. This means you will never have to remember to change what system you are operating on.

I’m very good at troubleshooting problems at work. I’m a handyman in a large corporate office. I like what I do. People rely on me to make sure their place of business is a comfortable and reliable space to get work done. Just the other day, I figured out why a printer wasn’t working before an important deadline was missed. I was happy to help. However, when it comes to certain things like heating and cooling, I’m clueless. I had a service appointment at my house yesterday and wanted to learn from a professional. I had the privilege of following an HVAC technician through my home while he ran through an eleven-point checklist that he usually uses when troubleshooting problems. The first thing he checks is the fuse. Breakers often turn off when a motor is expected to go bad in an HVAC unit. The gas valve is another common problem. Your heater uses the most gas in the winter and if the valve is corroded, it will need to be replaced. Air filters are often a source of the problem as well. When air filters are clogged, your heater or air conditioner will not function efficiently. A broken thermostat will also mess with your HVAC equipment. Call a technician if you’re not sure how to re-calibrate your thermostat. Sometimes you’ll find a puddle of water surrounding your air conditioner. This can be caused by a clogged line. Drain the lines and you could solve that problem. When he was finished, I thanked him for teaching me the basics of heating and cooling.

heater repair

We all went to bed on a nice fall evening last year. The leaves had just started falling from the trees and people were still cutting their grass. Cold temperatures and snow were distant at least for another month or so. Before we went to bed, the weather channel mentioned that we may get a little frost as the temperature was going to drop overnight. Little did we know that we would wake up with three feet of snow on the ground and subzero temperatures. I thought my first order of business would snowblowing the driveway. However, I quickly realized the furnace wasn’t working. I called my local HVAC business. Even though we were in the middle of a storm, they were able to get a heating and cooling technician to my house later that day. He was able to repair my furnace and get the heat going again. It turns out I had a few issues. A faulty thermocouple was cutting off my gas supply and not letting the pilot light. After fixing this issue, my heater still wasn’t working. The HVAC technician then realized the fuse controlling my furnace was blown. After resetting that, we were able to get my heater up and running for the first time since the morning. I’m grateful that he was able to perform a heater repair so quickly during a blizzard. Never would I have imagined worrying that much about my heater during the fall. I scheduled a service appointment with the same HVAC technician a few months from now to make sure my heater is still working properly.

Air conditioning

Ductwork in homes can be a pain.  Over time the ducts can crack and eventually get holes in the sides.  These holes allow for dirt, dust, and insects to enter into your heating and cooling system.  It is a hassle to clean the air ducts and fix them, so why not get a cooling system that doesn’t require these messy ducts?  Ductless air conditioning units can do just that.  They can rid you of those awful air ducts, so maintenance is easier than ever.  Ductless air conditioning units are a split system.  They have an outdoor condenser unit and multiple indoor units to cool your home.  The multiple indoor units can be scattered throughout your house to ensure even cooling.  These units can also be run individually.  The rooms you use most in your house can be set at a lower, cooler temperature  than rooms your don’t use that much.  You can even turn off the units in the rooms you don’t use to save on energy.  Ductless air conditioning units has zone control capabilities.  Again, this allows you you pick the areas of the house you wish to cool and turn off the units in the areas you don’t want to cool.  Zone controlling allows for energy efficiency in your home.  You won’t be using as much energy to cool certain areas of your home compared to cooling your entire house.  Manufacturers realize that these indoor units are going to be mounted on your walls or ceiling.  So, they have created many different sizes, shapes, and designs for you to choose from.  You are sure to find an indoor unit that will fit the design in your home.

Finding your HVAC system

Like any appliance or item that is exposed, heating and cooling equipment can collect dirt and dust.  Your HVAC system needs to be clean in order for it to work properly.  Small particles can get into the smallest spaces within your unit and cause a lot of damage.  If you ever see black soot on or around your HVAC unit, call a professional right away.  They should inspect the unit before you use it otherwise extensive damage can occur.  Not just the main unit needs to be taken care of.  The entire heating and cooling system including air ducts, vents, and other components need to be cleaned in order for the system to running efficiently.  Over time air ducts can develop cracks and holes.  These holes lead to air loss and result in your unit to work harder to produce enough heat or cooled air.  Along with damage to the air ducts, they can also collect dirt and dust within the series.  In extreme cases, insects and rodents have been found in ductwork.  It is very important to have these ducts cleaned regularly so you aren’t breathing in unpurified, contaminated air.  Inside your unit, air filters can collect dirt and dust pretty easily.  They filter all the air that passes through so they should be cleaned or replaced every month.  A clogged air filter can lead to many other issues with your system.  If you experience strange noises, low air output, or no air output, that could be a result of a clogged air filter.  Make sure your HVAC system is cleaned before using it.  It can save you time, energy, and money.

HVAC system upkeep

If your parents were anything like mine, they constantly talked about ways to save money and keep our home working with minimal repairs.  It is important to care of the items in our houses, so they will be able to last a long time.  A crucial appliance to keep updated is the heating and cooling system.  This system is very expensive so upkeep is important if you want it to last many, many years down the road.  To ensure your HVAC unit will last a long time, you should get a system tune-up every year.  During a tune-up, a certified HVAC technician will come to your home and inspect the units.  He will be able to make any necessary repairs or replace any broken elements.  Catching small issues early on is a great way to stay away from large, expensive repairs down the road.  If you hold off on calling a professional to fix your system, you may have to spend a lot more money to get the system repaired or worse, replace the entire unit.  Along with regular inspections, you should also make sure your heating and cooling system is clean.  Dirt and dust can get into the smallest spaces and cause major damage.  Not only should the units themselves be clean but also the air ducts.  Over time, ductwork can develop holes and cracks that allows dirt to come in the system and also lets air out of the system.  If you have an older home, you should get the air ducts checked for leaks and also have them cleaned out.commerical heating

HVAC safety

Safety is very important, especially in your own home.  There are some safety precautions you should be aware of before moving into a new house.  Heating and cooling equipment in your house needs to be taken care of, so it doesn’t malfunction.  If you have a gas furnace heating your home, make sure you get it checked every year.  Gas furnaces burn natural gas to produce heat.  The burning of gas gives off a chemical called carbon monoxide that should be vented outdoors.  This chemical is toxic and can be deadly.  Carbon monoxide is colorless and odorless, so the only way to know it is entering your home is a carbon monoxide detector.  A detector could save your live and your family’s lives.  If your house has an electric furnace, they can sometimes overheat.  Usually, these units will turn off themselves if they begin to overheat.  If that is the case, just allow the system to cool down and then try to turn it back on.  To avoid issues with any type of furnace, it is critical that you replace or clean the air filter every month.  A clogged air filter can be the cause of many issues like strange noises, low air output and no air output.  If you experience any of these issues, call a professional HVAC business right away.  They will be able to fix any of the issues and replace your clogged air filter.  The specialists will also be able to check over your heating system to ensure that it is working properly and that there is no dangers for you or your family.

Cooling

Air conditioning during the hot summer months is a must.  You want to come inside your house to escape the outdoor heat.  There are many options you can choose from when wanting to install a new air conditioning system.  Central air conditioning is very popular.  This system uses air ducts to force cooled air throughout your house.  There are two different types of central air systems including a split system and a package system.  The split system has an outdoor unit and a separate indoor unit.  The indoor unit is typically placed near your furnace or blower.  These two units need to be properly matched in order to work efficiently.  The package system is an all in one unit that is located outside.  Ductless air conditioning systems are easy to install and energy efficient.  This system doesn’t utilize ductwork so there is no extra duct maintenance needed.  Ductless air conditioning systems are a split system, so there is an outdoor unit and multiple indoor units.  Each indoor unit can be set individually.  This gives the system zone control capabilities.  You can change the temperature in the rooms you are usually in and turn off the units in the rooms you don’t use.  You will save a lot of energy and money this way.  Another option for cooling your house are heat pumps.  Heat pumps move heat from one location to another.  In order to cool your home, the heat pump will extract the heat in the air inside and release it outside.  Call a professional HVAC provider to learn about which cooling system is right for you.

Climate control

Having a high quality climate control system is essential for many business entities. Not only do customers enjoy a certain level of climate control, it may be essential for what is kept inside the entities facilities. For example, it is essential for a zoo to have consistent climate control. Different animals need a specific climate in order to survive. With this in mind the administrators of the zoo need to make sure the thermostats and HVAC systems are always working properly. HVAC businesses must be informed of the necessity of this maintenance so that no animals die because of a lapse in the climate control systems. The maintenance needed on the climate control system needs to be constant. We can assume that one of the main expenses of a zoo is the climate control system and it’s up keep. Recently, a zoo in my home town’s HVAC system broke down and they were in full crisis mode. They had to quickly transport the animals to another facility so that they did not die. This was major news because the zoo ended up suing the HVAC business due to a lack of maintenance that they were supposed to provide. The zoo ended up winning the law suit and the HVAC businesses reputation was ruined. You can see that not only do some businesses depend on HVAC providers to provide the maintenance that they promise but that the businesses have a lot of pressure on them to up keep their systems. It is a two way street when it comes to business and client relations.
